Each previous guitar profile can be found in the News Archive section. This edition features my second Wolfgang guitar. The process of opening shipped guitar boxes has become almost routine for me now. Back when this guitar arrived, however, I recall being simply ecstatic. #2 Peavey Wolfgang Special TR Transparent Green Flame Nickname: "Kermit The Frog" Built: February 2000 Acquired: August 2004 Story: This transparent green flame top Wolfgang Special was my first ever eBay purchase and was an absolute score. One benefit of being in a music store environment on a regular basis was that I was cued in early about the inevitable EVH-Peavey split. Thus, I paid several hundred dollars less for this guitar than what like models went for just a few weeks later, and it was in dead mint condition. The flame top Specials are a 1/4" flat maple cap with a natural wood faux binding, whereas arch top Wolfgangs have a 5/8" cap before carving and have a cream binding. This specific guitar has a noticeably thinner neck than any other Wolfgang I own or have played. I hadn't bought a guitar since the ivory Wolfgang six years earlier, so in a goofy way I felt like I was cheating or something. After I got it and noticed the neck differences, I was genuinely confused over which one accurately represented the intended contour of the Wolfgang neck. To date I haven't been able to get any kind of an explanation from anyone at Peavey nor any guitar specialist as to why the neck turned out more slender.
