Each previous profile can be found in the News Archive section. #14 Peavey Wolfgang Special TR Transparent Red Flame Nickname: "Animal" Built: N/A (Neck: 1999) Acquired: May 2006 Story: Though I'd never previously found the red flame tops very appealing, I bought the body for this Wolfgang Special off eBay when I saw the original owner part out and sell each individual piece (a crazy move, in my opinion, to part out the second-rarest production version of the Wolfgang). I got it for a decent price, so I figured I could either replace the body of one of my custom Wolfgangs or use it for another one. In the end, though, the only thing I wanted to do was restore the guitar to its original condition. I already had numerous Wolfgang pieces on hand, and I found a neck that had been hardly used. Shamefully, I must admit to sacrificing another Wolfgang Special to finish bringing this one back to life. I needed the pickups and Floyd Rose tremolo--two items that fetch hefty prices on the parts market. By coincidence I found a beat up gloss black Special on eBay with some misspelled words in the listing; its condition and lack of adequate search key words (it was a "Peavy Wolgang") meant I scored it cheap. The guitar wasn't out of the box for five minutes before it was almost completely disassembled. I harvested the parts I needed and resold the neck and body to make my initial investment back--and then some. So the transparent red Wolfgang is now back to being factory-stock, though the neck serial number of course does not reflect its color and ship date in the Peavey log. The neck itself is meatier than my other flame top Specials, thus it's more comfortable and the overall tone has a deeper resonance. In keeping with set precedent, this flame top Wolfgang Special is nicknamed after a Muppet--the notorious Electric Mayhem drummer Animal.
