For that reason, I had basically an entire Wolfgang sans body sitting around for the better part of two years. Also sitting around for an extended length of time was a pair of DiMarzio pickups I purchased--a Tone Zone and an Air Norton--with the intent of installing them in a Wolfgang. (The Tone Zone and Air Norton pickups most closely resemble the custom DiMarzios EVH helped design for the Ernie Ball MusicMan guitar.) I kept being flaky about which Wolfgang I planned to swap out the pickups on, so in true excessive fashion (which is what completely defines my Wolfgang "legacy") I opted simply to install them in a new one. I picked up this gloss black body on eBay and quickly assembled my fifth from-parts Wolfie. The DiMarzios are excellent and offer a subtle but noticeable difference from the stock Wolf pups, and I scolded myself for two weeks after putting this one together for not using the neck sooner; it has ripples of flame in the fingerboard and is one of the best Wolfgang Special necks I have ever played. Again, though, like several of the prior project Wolfgangs, this one's tenure in my arsenal had a shelf life. In March 2009, for both financial and practical reasons, I disassembled this Wolfgang and later re-sold some of its parts. The DiMarzio pickups were installed in the red flame top Wolfgang Special--#14. Zoner Live w/ AT/DT @ Turf Club in St. Paul - November 2008
