08/17/2009 @ 04:39 AM: On August 8th I completed a new custom guitar--the Tuxedo Ash Strat. This project's initial catalyst was a set of white Schaller tuners I bought off eBay in 2006; they were new-old-stock from the early 80s. (I just missed winning orange ones from the same seller.) At the time I certainly had no idea what I would use a set of white Schaller tuners for, but they were cool. I wondered about building an all-white guitar--a gimmick mostly--so I kept my eye out for more white parts. In July I landed this Olympic white ash Strat body, but when comparing part options against it I kept wanting to see black, especially with regard to the pickguard. The idea of a "tuxedo" guitar suddenly sounded (and looked) more appealing, so that's what it became. The Tuxedo Ash Strat has a mix of chrome and black hardware, along with a satin chrome finished Floyd Rose tremolo. It wasn't meant to be uniform, just a balance of white, black, and "shiny." The "AT" decals were added to offer up a custom look, and its designated strap is an Ace Frehley-styled black with white lightning bolt. Gimmicky, indeed. Pictures of this guitar in progress, along with my other guitar projects, can be found in the photos section of my MySpace page: www.myspace.com/andrewthomassolomusic.
